Sacred Heart Hospital gets new medical director

DR. Mirela Mijares has been appointed the new medical director of Sacred Heart Hospital.

Her untarnished record in the medical field for the past 20 years paved the way for her position.

Mijares is connected with private and government hospitals in Cebu City as consultant in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

She also teaches in the Cebu Institute of Medicine and Southwestern University-Matias H. Aznar, II Memorial College of Medicine.

Her priority as new medical director is to position SHH as the alternative hospital for those who cannot afford the services of the more expensive health care facilities. Mijares also sets her focus in organizing the medical staff, strengthening their ties and developing in them commitment and sense of ownership. “The happier they are with SHH, the more patients they will bring in,” she said.

When asked what management tactics would best suit her new position, she replied, “An honest, straightforward and upfront approach would be best. I believe people still appreciate honesty and other basic human values.”

Dr. Mijares hails from Masbate and finished Medicine in the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Quezon City. She is a diplomate of the Philippine Board of Plastic Surgery and a fellow of the Philippine Association of Plastic Reconstruction Aesthetic Surgery, Philippine College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons.
