MANILA, Philippines — Pre-emptive evacuation was made in areas expected to be affected by supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name Haiyan), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday.
The following areas in Eastern Visayas have implemented pre-emptive evacuation:
- Barangay (village) Bangon, Catbalogan, Samar
- Salcedo, Eastern Samar
- Guiuan, Eastern Samar
- Oras, Eastern Samar
Yolanda is forecast to make landfall Friday morning over Eastern Visayas.
Classes were suspended in parts of Albay, Western and Central Visayas on Thursday and Friday.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama declared work suspension in private and public companies on Thursday and Friday, Philippine Information Agency Central Visayas reported.
Cebu and Negros Oriental also declared suspension of work Thursday afternoon and the whole day of November 8.
In Dumaguete City, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has instructed forced evacuation of residents in flood prone areas.
