Close to 94% say SSS hefty bonuses ‘immoral’
MANILA, Philippines—INQUIRER.net readers do not agree with the Social Security System (SSS) chief, who believes that the granting of huge bonuses to its members was “moral.”
About 94 percent disagreed to the INQUIRER.net poll question, “The president and CEO of SSS believes giving hefty bonuses to its board members is moral. Do you agree?”
In an earlier report, Emilio de Quiros Jr., SSS president and chief executive officer, said he believed the granting of hefty bonuses to board members of the state insurance agency was moral.
From the 14,905 votes generated until Thursday, 13,951 answered “No” or 93.6 percent.
Only 6.4 percent of the votes, which totaled to 954, believed that the granting of hefty bonuses is moral.
The eight members of the SSS board got a performance bonus of about P1 million each for 2012.
The bonuses were given in accordance with the performance-incentives system set by the Governance Commission for Government-owned and -controlled corporations (GCG), which operates under the Office of the President.
