With 1 retired, 1 fired, De Lima to appoint 2 new NBI deputy directors

MANILA, Philippines—Justice Secretary Leila De Lima on Wednesday said she will appoint two new Deputy Directors of the National Bureau of Investigations (NBI) due to the retirement of one and firing another.

The Justice Chief said with the appointment ban of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) now over, they can start looking for new Deputy Directors.

“I think lumampas na appointment ban ng Comelec and I am looking at two [deputy directors] because Deputy Director [for Technical Services Rickson] Chiong has retired and I will replace one other deputy director,” De Lima told reporters Wednesday at the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati City.

However, she did not disclose who will be replaced or what is the reason.

The reshuffle at the NBI will be next week, De Lima said.

There are six Deputy Directors at the NBI: Chiong (Technical Services), Rafael Ragos (Comptroller Services), Virgilio Mendez (Regional Operation Services), Reynaldo Esmeralda (Intelligence Service), Ruel Lasala (Special Investigation Services) and Edmundo Arugay (Administrative Services).
