Japan, PH partner for Bohol rehab

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in its effort to rehabilitate Bohol province after it suffered massive damage from the 7.2-magnitude earthquake last Oct. 15.

Jica chief representative Takahiro Sasaki, through the DSWD, turned over 150 tents and 485 blue tarpaulin sheets to the Bohol provincial government for distribution to affected families.

The tents made of cotton canvass has a total floor area of 16 sq.m. and galvanized steel posts. It has two apertures, front and back and a window on each side of the wall. Each tent is waterproof and rustproof.

The tarpaulin sheets measure 50 meters by four meters and is made of woven high-density polyethylene (HDPE) fiber.

The relief goods are part of the 38 million Japanese yen worth of relief items donated by Sasaki to Social Welfare Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman.

“I am deeply touched by the support extended by the government of Japan through Jica in these difficult times,” said Gov. Edgar Chatto during the turnover ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion in Tagbilaran City.
