Tornadoes rip through 3 Iloilo towns and two cities in Cebu
ILOILO CITY, Philippines—Strong winds believed to be a tornado destroyed at least nine houses and damaged 64 others in three towns in Iloilo Monday night, according to initial reports from the Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office
No casualties have been reported as of 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The winds, which struck from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., destroyed at least nine houses and damaged 40 others in the town of Pavia. It damaged at least 14 houses in Oton and 10 houses in Barotac Nueva, the provincial disaster office said.
A tornado also hit the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City past 8 p.m. Monday.
Oscar Tabada, director of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration office in the Visayas, told station dyAB it was possible that two tornadoes hit Cebu.
The tornado damaged 10 houses in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City and three houses near the Mactan Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City. Four people were reported hurt, one in Sitio Superior, Barangay Looc and three in Lapu-Lapu City.
