SHANGHAI—President Aquino has ordered the release of P6-billion to fund the development, repair and maintenance of the Philippines’ various airports to improve its facilities in order to service the bulk of foreign airline companies who will partake in the government’s open skies policy.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the President had ordered Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas to initiate repair and rehabilitation works on the country’s airports in order to ease the departures and arrivals of flights.

He said the President had also invited Hainan officials to visit the Philippines and take part of its pocket open skies policy that opens up Philippine airspace to other carriers to spur tourism as well as economic growth.
