Multicab runs over woman

A 50-year-old woman was killed after she was thrown off a motorcycle and was run over by a multicab van in a three-vehicle smash-up in barangay Lutac, Naga City, southern Cebu.

Police identified the fatality as Elizabeth Gonzales, who suffered head injuries.

Police said Gonzales and her husband Antonio were headed home in Pinamungajan aboard a motorcycle driven by Alex Mautos, 46, when they met the accident past noon Saturday.

Police said Mautos tried to overtake a van-type multicab driven by Romeo Dayagonon at a curve. In the process, Mautos hit the mini van causing him to lose control of the motorcycle.

When the motorcycle crashed, Gonzales was hurled to the opposite lane where she was ran over by an oncoming passenger multicab driven by Franco Adlawan.

Adlawan said he tried to avoid the woman slumped on the road but it was too late.

Elizabeth was brought to the South General Hospital in Naga City where she was declared dead by the attending physician.

Police said the victim’s family reached an amicable settlement with Adlawan and Dayaganon.
