PUJ overturns near cemetery; 12 injured

Twelve passengers were wounded when the jeepney they were riding overturned in barangay Carreta, Cebu City early morning yesterday.
A female passenger  lost her shoulder bag containing a cell phone and P3,000 to a boy whom she thought was rushing to her aid.
“I thought he was going to help us but he instead stole my bag,” said the woman identified only as  Lea.
The accident happened in front of the Queen City Memorial Gardens during All Saints’ Day.
The driver said the tire rod end of the vehicle broke after one of the wheels fell into a pothole.
Editho Hempiso, 32,  said he lost control of the  wheel and the  jeepney flipped even though he was driving  at low speed.
Hempiso was later brought to the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management office for further questioning.
In Borbon town, northern Cebu, 10 people were injured after a jeepney that was ferrying them to a cockfight fell into a ravine in barangay Lugo past 1 p.m. Thursday.
Six  victims were brought to the Vicente Sotto Medical Memorial Center in Cebu City due to severe injuries.
Julani Baguio, the 30-year-old jeepney driver,  said he was negotiating a blind curve when the vehicle’s brake malfunctioned.
Baguio said he tried to avoid colliding with another vehicle from the opposite lane.  The  jeepney  fell into a seven-foot-deep ravine.
