The Manila Chinese Cemetery, said to be the second oldest cemetery in Manila, was designated as the resting place for Chinese citizens who were denied burial in Catholic cemeteries—primarily the La Loma Cemetery—during the Spanish colonial period. Founded in the 1850s by Lim Ong and Tan Quien Sien (Don Carlos Palanca), the 54-hectare Chinese cemetery was the site of numerous executions during World War II. Among those executed were Girls Scouts founder Josefa Llanes Escoda and Boy Scouts of the Philippines founder and Hero of Bataan Gen. Vicente Lim. Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
