Baby Lancers rebound with win over CIT-U

THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas Baby Lancers refused to get their first loss of the season get the better of them by crushing the Cebu Institute of Technology-University, 85-57, in the juniors division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

UV is coming off a heartbreaking 73-79 loss to the league-leading Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles last Wednesday.

It was a game that could have gone either way save for some mental lapses by the Baby Lancers down the stretch.

They vented their ire on the Wildkittens yesterday as they outscored them, 50-27, in the second and third periods to hack out the easy win.

UV improved to 6-1 (win-loss) while CIT-U fell to 1-3.

In the late game in the seniors division last Wednesday, the reigning champions University of Cebu Webmasters completed a sweep of the first round by tripping the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 62-61.

UC ended the first round with a 6-0 record while USPF finished with a respectable 3-3 card.

CIT-U actually led, 20-18, after the first period but then, sputtered in the next two frames. They managed just eight in the second period to get behind, 36-28.

The Baby Lancers assumed full control of the game by scoring 32 points in the third stanza off a balanced effort by all of the players.  Correspondent Jonas Panerio
