Signal No. 3 up in 5 N. Luzon areas

MANILA, Philippines – The state weather bureau raised Storm Signal No. 3 in five areas in Northern Luzon as “Vinta” intensified into a typhoon Thursday afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its 11 a.m. weather bulletin said storm warning signals were up in the following areas:

Apayao
Ilocos Norte

Batanes Group of Islands
Abra
Kalinga
Ilocos Sur
Mt. Province
Isabela

Signal No. 1

La Union
Benguet
Ifugao
Nueva Vizcaya
Quirino
Aurora
Pangasinan
Nueva Ecija
Tarlac
Zambales

 

“Vinta” was located 170 kilometers East Southeast of Appari, Cagayan as of 12 noon with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph.

It is expected to make a landfall over Northern Cagayan on Thursday afternoon and will leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility before noon on Friday.

The weather bureau alerted the public against possible flashfloods and landslides in areas with storm signals.
