Chief Inspector Manuel Maligaya, San Pascual police chief, identified the victim as Alfredo Aldover, 61, vice mayor of San Pascual in 1995.
Maligaya said Aldover, who appeared to be drunk and firing his hand gun successively, was walking along the national road at the town proper when shot in the back by an at around 11:15 p.m.
Prior to the incident, Aldover came from a drinking bout with some unknown persons and was said to have engaged in an argument, said Maligaya.
Maligaya said it appeared that the adversary or adversaries of the former vice mayor came back.
Aldover allegedly fired his gun in the air as he was walking down the road.
When Aldover’s pistol ran out of bullets, someone from behind shot him. Bystanders could not identify who shot him because it was pitch dark, said Maligaya.
Aldover was rushed to the nearest hospital, but was declared dead on arrival, he said.
Maligaya said they were interviewing the witnesses and Aldover’s drinking buddies to identify the gunman and the motive for the killing.
