Papua New Guinea students in Cebu extended help to the earthquake victims in Bohol by donating boxes of noodles, rice, biscuits, canned goods, clothing and bottled water.

The New Guinean students and Student Representatives Council (SRC), who are under Paradise International Education Consultancy, initiated the community service themed, “Compassion into Action,” to help the affected people. The students agreed to donate and collect relief goods to be distributed to the affected families.

Led by Joraq Yanis, a sophomore in Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation, the students were able to gather the basic needs of the victims.

“What could be more fulfilling and heartwarming than being able to help people. We were able to share what we have to these people we do not personally know but need our help. Ours might be just a little support but we know we have done a big contribution,” Yanis said.

The donations were turned over to Captain Jithin Bhadran of Continental Aero Flying School (CAFS), which airlifted the goods to Bohol on Oct. 23.

“We have taken initiative to give donations because we want to help the community. We are praying for the fast recovery of the earthquake victims and we hope to do more community projects in the future,” said Shona Tsirikuo, SRC vice president who is a Business Administration major in Marketing Management student at the University of San Carlos.
