Train derails in northeast Spain, 3 people hurt
MADRID – The last car of a commuter train traveling to a Barcelona suburb has derailed as it arrived at a platform, slightly injuring three passengers, an official has said.
A spokesman for the regional government of northeastern Catalonia said one of car’s axles appears to have suffered damage, making it leave the tracks.
The spokesman spoke Sunday on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to give his name to the press according to government rules.
He said the derailment did not affect traffic because other trains were easily diverted to miss the affected platform at Sant Andreu Arenal station.
The derailed train belongs to state-owned company Renfe.
A high speed Renfe train derailed in northwestern Spain in July, killing 79 people.
