MANILA, Philippines – The death toll from the 7.2 magnitude Bohol earthquake last October 15 has risen to 215 people by Sunday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
Fatalities from Bohol rose to 201, after two deaths were reported in Antequera and Tubigon. Meanwhile, the death toll in Siquijor remained at 1 and Cebu at 13.
On Saturday night, the death toll in Bohol increased after two corpses were found in Loon and Sagbayan, among the most devastated towns in the province.
On the other hand, the number of families staying in the 265 evacuation centers in Bohol went down to 17,907 or 92,678 persons.
Of the infrastructure affected by the quake, three bridges and two roads are still not passable in Bohol, Cebu and Negros Occidental.
In Bohol, parts of Antequera, Calape, Catigbian, Cortes, Inabanga, Loon, Maribojov, San Isidro and Tubigon are still without electricity.
With 57,950 houses damaged by the major earthquake, key shelter agencies including the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) are working to centralize reconstruction and resettlement efforts.
