MANILA, Philippines – Two children were killed in the huge fire that broke out after midnight at Macda Compound, Barangay Cembo in Makati City, authorities said Sunday.
Radyo Inquirer 990AM said two children identified as Rose Ann Ariola, 6, and her brother Robert, 4, were killed in the fire that affected at least 2,000 families and razed 500 houses.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Jorge Albito told INQUIRER.net that the first alarm was raised at 12:10 a.m.
The fire was placed under control at 1:42 a.m. Sunday, and the fire out declared at 3:10 a.m.
Albito said the investigators, who are still on the field, have yet to determine the total cost of damages and number of casualties because of the large area affected.
Filipinos who witnessed the fire took to Twitter and blogs to post videos and photos of the large blaze.
One blogger said the fire spread out fast among the houses in the compound.
