MANILA, Philippines—A suspect in the failed attempt to kill a television program editor was arrested in Makati City before dawn on Thursday, police said.

At around 1 a.m., police patrolling along JP Rizal extension corner 10th Avenue in Buting East Rembo, Makati city, heard gunshots and saw a commotion perpetrated by the suspect identified as Antonio Alcuaz, 35, a resident of 5th Avenue East Rembo Makati city, said Highway Patrol Group (HPG) director Police Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina Jr.

Alcuaz was carrying a .45-cal. pistol loaded with five live ammos and was chasing Aose Asiao, editor of the ABS-CBN television program Rated K, Espina said.

Alcuaz was brought to HPG office in the National Capital Region and charges of attempted murder and of illegal possession of firearms were being prepared against him, Espina said.
