Quake death toll breaches 200

MANILA, Philippines—The death toll from last week’s 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Central Visayas has climbed to more than 200 after more bodies were found under the rubble or landslides, three of whom were not even reported missing earlier, authorities said on Friday.

As of 3 p.m. Friday, the regional Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said there were 206 reported dead and 724 injured in Bohol, Cebu, Siquijor and Negros Oriental provinces.

Eight people were reported still missing in Bohol.

The OCD said the bodies of three fatalities were dug up from a landslide in Loon town in Bohol, but only two of them had been reported missing.

In the capital city of Tagbilaran, two people were found dead but they were also not reported missing earlier.

The names of the fatalities were not immediately available.

The recovery of the bodies brought to 192 the number of dead in Bohol, which bore the brunt of the earthquake’s destructive power.

Loon town had 63 dead; Alburquerque, two; Antequera, 15; Baclayon, one; Balilihan, six; Batuan, one; Bilar, four; Buenavista, two; Calape, eight; Catigbian, six; Clarin, six; Cortes, seven; Danao, two; Getafe, one; Inabanga, eight; Loay, two; Maribojoc, 14; Pilar, two; Sagbayan, 10; San Isidro, eight; Sevilla, four; Sierra Bullones, one; Tagbilaran City, seven; Talibon, one; Trinidad, one, and Tubigon, 10.
