Truck driver slain by co-worker in alleged love triangle

MANILA, Philippines—Police have launched a manhunt for a truck driver who allegedly stabbed dead Wednesday night a co-worker, whom he accused of having an affair with his wife.

Narciso Solis Jr., 43, a stay-in employee of the Khen Trucking Services at the corner of Severino Reyes and Herrera streets in Sta. Cruz, Manila fled after his alleged assault of fellow truck driver, Arturo Dasigao, 37.

Police Officer 3 Alonzo Layugan, of the Manila Police District homicide section, said that the incident happened at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday inside a closed van of a ten-wheeler truck parked in front of the trucking office.

Layugan said that several hours before the incident, Dasigao and four other co-employees were having drinks inside the closed van when Solis joined them.

During the drinking session, Solis excused himself and later returned armed with a knife and suddenly attacked Dasigao, repeatedly stabbing him in the chest and lower part of the abdomen.

The suspect allegedly also tried to stab another co-worker, Wilfredo Abamo, who was able to jump out of the van and escape unharmed.

The knife-wielding truck driver fled after the attack while Dasigao, who suffered multiple stab wounds in the chest and abdomen, was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Layugan pointed out that based on Abamo’s statement, both truck drivers had been employed with the company for two years and that Solis had been suspecting Dasigao of having an amorous relationship with his wife.

Abamo claimed that jealousy could have triggered Solis’ murderous rage, Layugan said.

Dasigao’s body was brought to the Universal funeral parlor for autopsy while MPD homicide section investigators conduct follow-up operations for the suspect’s arrest.
