‘Beware of dye in cotton candy’

READ product labels and make sure these are registered.

So stressed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which warns the public against counterfeit, adulterated and misbranded products.

The FDA also warns the public to go slow in the consumption of products found to contain high traces of Rhodamine, a naturally carcinogenic industrial dye.

These products include cotton candy, gelatin or “gulaman,” and dried shrimp or “hipon.”

FDA Regulation Officer II Sarah Oriol said consumers should make sure that the products they buy are registered with their agency.

She said that prescription drugs should include a Drug Registration (DR) number, household remedies or over-the-counter drugs should have a Household Remedies Registration (HR) number, and injectable preparations should have a Biological Registration (BR) number. The products must also have a production number. /Victor Anthony V. Silva, Correspondent
