A 13-year-old boy from barangay Tagpo, Bais City, Negros Oriental is in need of medical assistance for his physical therapy and second surgery.
Jovie Tamayo sustained burns on his face, left upper extremity and anterior chest when he was five years old.
He went out of the house one evening to take care of their raised chickens when he accidentally slipped, fell to the ground and lost hold of the kerosene lamp, which then hit his body.
He then developed burn contracture and scarring.
Jovie’s upper left arm was appended to his chest, limiting his movements and causing his classmates to make fun of him. Despite everything, Jovie continues to go to school, which is 3-hour walk away from their house.
Recently, Jovie underwent surgery to remove the burn contracture to separate his arm from his chest.
However, he still needs to undergo another skin grafting after six months of physical therapy.
Jovie’s parents, who are both farmers, however could not afford the needed medication. Moreover, they don’t have a house to stay in Cebu where his therapy sessions will be performed.
Jovie is asking kindhearted individuals for help.
