Social welfare agency seeks parents of abandoned children

/ 06:18 AM October 25, 2013

THE Norfil Foundation Inc., a social welfare agency based in Lapu-Lapu City, is calling on the parents and relatives of the minors who were left under their care.

Bencin Diolas Ymbong, 4, and his sister Jamaica Diolas, 3, were left by their father Brendo Ymbong of barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City last June 11 to the care of their paternal grandmother. But the grandmother, citing her inability to take care of the children, turned over the siblings to Norfil. The children’s mother Mercedita Diolas is deceased.

Baby girl Mika Bacalso, estimated to be more than one year old, was left by his mother Marcelina “Macing” Bacalso to the care of Ismael Tuanquin of barangay Labangon, Cebu City last May 10. Marcelina promised Tuanquin she’d be back for the baby. However, she did not return, prompting Tuanquin to surrender the child to Norfil Foundation on Airbase Road, sitio Sangi, barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City.

The Norfil Foundation is requesting the parents or relatives of the minors to see or contact any of these social workers: Angelina Dungog, Sheryl Gacita and Griffith Riconalla at 3401170 or 3405722 from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Failure of the parties to appear within three months may compel the Department of Social Welfare and Development to issue a certification that the children are legally available for adoption based on Republic Act 9523.
