MANILA, Philippines – The military will go on red alert status on Friday ahead of the barangay (village) elections on Monday until November 2.
Colonel Rolando Manalo of the office of the operations (J3) said at a briefing at Camp Aguinaldo on Thursday that the Armed Forces will go on red alert starting Friday until All Souls’ Day on November 2.
The military went on blue alert on Thursday. This means that the troops are on standby.
They will augment police troops for the barangay elections on Monday, October 28.
For the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day (Nov. 1 and 2), Manalo said they already coordinated with the police for security operations.
“We have likewise activated the same crisis action team that will address both the barangay elections and the peaceful [All Saints’ Day],” he said.
The military had earlier deployed more than 800 deployed troops in the National Capital Region for the upcoming elections.
