Did you know: 139th birth anniversary of Sen. Rafael Palma

Today, Oct. 24, is the 139th birth anniversary of former Sen. Rafael Palma. Born in Tondo, Manila, in 1874, he was elected to the Senate upon its creation in 1916. A member of the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines since its foundation, he became the university’s fourth president in 1925. Palma also served as chair of the National Council of Education, a position he held from 1936 to May 24, 1939, when he succumbed to brain cancer. Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
