SM malls install automated weather stations

SM Supermalls, in partnership with Weather Philippines Foundation, has committed to install automated weather stations (AWS) in all SM malls nationwide.

WPF is a non-profit organization founded by Aboitiz Foundation Inc., Unionbank and Europe’s leading weather service provider Meteomedia.

The Automated Weather Stations will help monitor weather condition in the locality.

It will also provide the current and forecasted details on the weather conditions such as the temperature, amount of rain, humidity, dew point, and wind speed and direction.

The data can be viewed by visiting www.weather.com.ph, just enter SM <Mall Name> in the search bar, and select the mall in the results list or on the map. Current and forecasted five-day weather conditions can be seen at the website.

WeatherPhilippines Foundation aims to install roughly 1,000 automated weather stations in the country before end 2013 to aid local government units, communities, and individuals in disaster risk preparedness and timely response to variable weather conditions.

At present, it has approximately 400 AWS in various locations across the Philippines.
