Thieves hit Phil. Pedia Society
Thieves broke into the office of a medical organization over the weekend in Quezon City and took nearly P140,000 in cash and gadgets. The burglary at one of the offices of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) building was discovered only on Monday morning. The PPS is a specialty division of the Philippine Medical Association and has over 4,000 members, according to its website.
Case investigator PO3 Rodolfo Ramos of the Anonas police station said the office, located on Kalayaan Avenue in Barangay Malaya, was unattended but was not locked. On Monday morning, utility worker Rose Legaspi came in early and found the office in disarray but she did not report the matter since she thought this was the norm.
It was only after three other employees came in that the burglary became apparent. Administrative officer Josie Sebetero said she lost two laptop computers worth P74,000 while secretaries Leonora Sabala and Rona Orayo said they lost P54,000 and P11,300 in cash, respectively. The police learned that the office was guarded over the weekend by two security guards who were stationed at the third floor of the PPS building. Julie M. Aurelio
