PRIME MOVER RUNS OVER MAN
A MAN died after a prime mover ran over him in barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City about 2 p.m. yesterday.
The fatality was not immediately identified.
The driver, Arnel Benansilan, 30, surrendered to the police after the incident.
Benansilan told police he didn’t notice the he had hit the victim until he heard bystanders yelling at him as he was about to maneuver a curve of S.B.
Cabahug Street on the way to APL Compound in the Mandaue Relamation Area.
The driver said he did not stop right away for fear of being lynched by the crowd.
The accident victim was rushed to the Mandaue District Hospital where he was declared dead by physicians.
A charge of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide will be filed against the driver, said police./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
MANDAUE, LAPU BURGLARIES
CASH and valuables worth at least P500,000 were stolen in separate burglaries in Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities.
Police said P300,000 cash and computer gadgets were taken from the Night Bright Asia Pacific Inc. on M.C. Briones highway in barangay Maguikay, Mandaue.
The store is owned by Australian national Derek Pyra.
Police said the burglary was discovered around 7 a.m. yesterday. There were no signs of forced entry.
Chief Insp. Rex Lomente, chief of Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB), said they received reports that the company was looking into a matter of an unliquidated expense of P94,000 at the time and that three staffers in charge of the funds failed to justify how the money was spent.
Lomente said the computer servers may have been stolen to avoid tracing the missing money.
In barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City, P200,000 in cash and valuables were stolen from an apartment rented by a Korean national.
Park Sung Sook reported the burglary to the Lapu-Lapu Police Office on Tuesday afternoon.
The Korean said he arrived home and was surprised to see the door knob of the main door destroyed and his belongings in disarray.
The apartment had a security guard but Ernesto Tribucio of GISA Security Agency said he fell asleep around 3 a.m.
