THE opening of a desalination plant at the South Road Properties (SRP) will help address the water supply requirements for locators in the area.
“We can supply 22,000 cubic meters of water daily for locators,” said William Maceren, Pilipinas Water Resources, Inc. (PWRI) president.
PWRI has partnered with Mactan Rock Industries, Inc., (MRII) which built and will operate the plant for thirty years. The facility was inaugurated last Saturday.
Maceren said they already invested at least P750 million for the plant that will provide enough water for locators in the area in the next five years.
DEMAND
“We project the demand to reach 50,000 cubic meters in 20 years and our lines are equipped to handle that volume of water,” Maceren said.
The PWRI are selling their water at P47 to P49 per cubic meter.
However, they plan to invest at least P2.5 billion in the next five years to ensure the stable supply of water in the area, said Antonio Tompar, MRII chairman.
The company plans to supply the SM Group that’s developing the 30-hectare project called SM Seaside City and Filinvest which is developing their midrise condominium community Citta di Mare.
3-PIPE SYSTEM
Tompar said that the plant can produce as much as 25,000 cubic meters a day if needed.
“This is the first project also where a three-pipe system is put in place where one line provides drinking water, another for waste water collection, and the third line for recycled water that can be used for flushing and other uses,” he said adding that 30 percent of total water usage will be recycled through their water treatment facility also built within the plant.
