THREE SQUADS beat their respective rivals to forge quarterfinal rubbermatches against their foes in the SK division of the 3rd Mayor Teresa “Nene” P. Alegado Fiesta Cup basketball tournament at the brgy. Jugan open court in Consolacion town, northern Cebu.
The Tayud, Cansaga and Danlag quintets scored separate upset wins in their quarterfinals matches after they stunned their twice-to-beat rivals.
The Pulpogan quintet, on the other hand, became the first team to storm into the semifinal round in the same division as it demolished Pulog, 55-42, to move a step closer to the championship round.
Danlag set up a rubbermatch versus Casili after slipping past the latter, 62-57, while Tayud secured its do-or-die match with a thrilling 70-68 win over the gritty Jugan five. Cansaga joined the fray after securing its own rubbermatch with an exciting 56-50 victory over Garing.
The games are supervised by league commissioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former star player of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws during his UAAP days. /Correspondent Jade S. Violeta
