Burglars strike twice in QC, take around P350k from bar, restaurant

Robbers broke into two commercial establishments in Quezon City over the weekend and took over P350,000 worth of cash and equipment.

Police investigators, however, were considering the possibility that one of the cases may be an inside job as there was no sign of forced entry. In addition, the perpetrators took the closed-circuit TV (CCTV) recorder as if to make sure they would not be identified.

The first burglary happened between 4 a.m. and noon on Friday at the Nation Bar and Grill on Scout Borromeo Street in Barangay (village) South Triangle.

According to PO2 Jayson Darriguez of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Kamuning station, the restaurant was closed down for the day by security guard Julito Rempillo and stay-in employee Joselito Cecilio Yumang around 3 a.m. on Friday after the other employees left.

When Yumang woke up at 1 p.m. later in the day, he discovered that someone had taken the TV set worth P80,000, a CCTV recorder worth P20,000 and three microphones valued at P6,000. He immediately reported the theft to the police.

During investigation, the police did not find any sign of forced entry anywhere in the establishment. No usable fingerprints were also lifted from the crime scene.

The case investigator said there was a high possibility that the incident was an inside job.

In the second incident, a Chinese food specialty restaurant lost close to P250,000 in cash to robbers who bore a hole in the roof.

A report from the QCPD Cubao station said the break-in happened around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Hanobe Asian Cuisine on Granada Street in Cubao.

Taken was the cashbox containing the restaurant’s earnings of over P248,000 and a tablet worth nearly P6,000.
