While the Marquez-Bradley fight was going on, Chino Trinidad gave the information that both fighters shunned a fight with Manny Pacquiao, even with the prospect of making more than double the purse that they signed for in that fight.

As the fight progressed, it became apparent why with the Pacman in the ring, the cash register just keeps on ringing and ringing. Just the way the screen of your smart phone or android tablet light up when you accomplish a level in Candy Crush.

The Bradley-Marquez fight was so boring that I could afford to stand up to get a drink from the fridge in the middle of a round and I am sure I would not miss anything.

Unlike in a Pacquiao fight when you have to glue your eyes to the screen, and even remain in your seat in-between rounds, lest you get to miss a highlight of the match.

Even without Jinky or Mommy Dionisia, Cong. Manny is just a different sight to watch. The training in acting that Manny got, for doing commercials, may be part of the reason why he commands a presence different from other boxers.

Nonito Donaire almost approximates the Pacquiao magic in the ring. There were others in the past who created the same charisma. Muhammad Ali, Hector Camacho, Sugar Ray Leonard, to name a few.

They also demanded big money.

Unfortunately for them, they came before pay-per-view where they could have made much more in their careers.

The Pacquiao phenomenon swept the country like a storm and placed the Philippines on the world sports map. The Philippines is lucky to have a once in lifetime person like Manny Pacquiao. I just hope that somebody will follow in his footsteps, considering that so many Filipinos have been inspired by Manny’s success.

But even if no one would emerge in the next decade, Philippine boxing will continue to be in the world sports map, thanks to Manny Pacquiao.
