Over 300 arrested for violating gun ban ahead of barangay polls

MANILA, Philippines – Over 300 people were arrested for allegedly violating the gun ban as the campaign period for the barangay (village) elections on October 28 starts today, Friday.

With exactly 10 days to go before the polls, Police Senior Superintendent Wilben Mayor, Philippine National Police spokesman, said of the 390 being held, 369 were civilians, five police officers, two were government officials, eleven security guards, and three from the military.

Over 300 firearms have been confiscated, along with 61 grenades, 14 firearms replica, and 128 bladed weapons.
