MANILA, Philippines – The initial date set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the special barangay (village) elections in war-torn and flood-ravaged Zamboanga City is on November  25, Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said over Radyo Inquirer 990AM.

“The consensus is to Nov. 25 to avoid any holdover,” Brillantes said, adding that they will again discuss the matter to determine with finality when the special elections will be conducted.

The village officials’ term expires Nov. 30.

The Comelec postponed the elections in Zamboanga City due to the damage caused by the recent armed conflict between government troops and members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).
