MEXICAN Edgar “Chololo” Martinez will replace Jose “Matador” Cabrera as the opponent of WBO Asia-Pacific super flyweight champion “King” Arthur Villanueva in the Pinoy Pride XXII: The Revenge this Oct. 26 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
A press release sent by ALA Promotions shows that Cabrera has issues on his paperworks and visa, which resulted to the cancellation of his scheduled flight to Cebu to face Villanueva (23-0, 13KOs).
ALA Promotions was able to sign up Martinez (16-7, 10KOs) to face Villanueva instead.
This is the second time that Villanueva’s opponent was replaced. Before Cabrera and Martinez, Oscar Blanquet was initially picked by ALA Promotions to fight Villanueva. But Blanquet was replaced by Cabrera after he was assaulted and hospitalized a few days after signing the contract to fight Villanueva.
Pinoy Pride XXII will be spearheaded by WBO Asia-Pacific Super Bantamweight champion Genesis ‘Azukal’ Servania (22-0, 8KOs), who will go up against former world title challenger Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion (18-6, 8KOs) for the WBO intercontinental superbantam weight title. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G.
