Death toll in earthquake at least 144

AT least 144 were killed in the destructive earthquake that jolted parts of the Visayas and Mindanao with most fatalities coming from- Bohol.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council spokesman Major Rey Balido said that as of 5 p.m. yesterday they recorded at least 144 deaths and 291 persons injured mostly due to falling debris.

Cebu Daily News confirmed at least 11 deaths in Cebu – five in Cebu City, three in Pinamungahan town, one in Mandaue City, one in Talisay City and another in Ronda.

The town with the most fatalities was Loon, Bohol with at least 35. Many of the victims were pinned down by debris when the Natalio Castillo Sr. Memorial Hospital collapsed.

Two more bodies were pulled from the collapsed San Pedro Apostol church also in Loon yesterday afternoon.

Antequera 13; Maribojoc with 11; Getafe 2; Clarin 4; Buenavista 2; Calape 5; Tubigon 7; Balilihan 5; Inabanga 4; Batuan 1; Sagbayan 9; Baclayon 1; Tagbilaran City 4; Loay 2; Alburquerque 2; Bilar 4; Cortes 2; Catigbian 4; San Isidro 10; Talibon 1; Trinidad 1; Danao 2; Sierra Bullones 1.

There were 291 persons injured, while 23 persons were still unaccounted for.
