Thai man arrested for giving meth to flood center
BANGKOK — Thai officials say a man who was high on drugs was arrested after attempting to donate methamphetamine tablets to help flood victims at a relief center.
Local district chief Pawat Lertmukda says 39-year-old Jakrit Mukpradab showed up with 11 methamphetamine pills at a donation tent in Chonburi province on Monday.
He says Jakrit told the volunteers they could sell the drugs and use the money to support the troubled families. The volunteers were actually from a civil drug suppression task force.
Pawat said Tuesday that the man was handed over to police and will face narcotics possession charges. He could face up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Floods this year have killed more than 61 people and affected 3.6 million people across Thailand.
