6:45 p.m. – UC vs. USPF (srs.)
The league’s powerhouses continued their purge of the rest of the field as the University of Cebu (UC), the University of the Visayas (UV) and Southwestern University (SWU) posted easy victories in the seniors division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
Yesterday, the UV Green Lancers utilized their heft and height advantage in the fourth period to hack out a 68-54 win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers. Bullstrong forward Edrian Lao scored UV’s first six points in the final frame that anchored an 8-2 run which turned a 45-40 lead into a 53-42 advantage.
The Panthers actually were down, 15-32, at halftime, but fought valiantly with a 20-4 run that got them within just five. However, that was as close as they would get with lefty guard John Abad eventually sealing the win with consecutive three-pointers which gave them a 64-45 lead with 3:55 left in the game.
Abad ended up with 19 points while Lao added 13 as UV improved to 4-2 (win-loss) while USPF fell to 3-2.
The reigning champions UC Webmasters also made short work of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U)Wildcats, 100-81, late Tuesday night.
The victory pushed their record to a league-leading 5-0 as Robinson Mohammad waxed hot from beyond the arc and scored a game-high 25. John Aranas also chipped in 16 while Junemar Fajardo managed just 12 in limited minutes.
The SWU Cobras dominated the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 83-59.
In juniors action, the reigning champions Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons got their third win against a lone loss after they blasted the USJ-R Baby Jaguars, 86-68.
The USPF Baby Panthers, meanwhile, got a combined 64 points from Winston Bolivar and Rommel Diapera as they won, 89-85, over CIT-U. Bolivar had 33 while Diapera added 31.
