The famed Dancesport-Team Cebu City (DTCC) kept their vaunted reputation as the country’s best dancesport team as they swept through the 17th Dancesport Council of the Philippines Inc. (DSCPI) National Dancesport Championship in grand fashion, capturing 16 gold medals, nine silvers and seven bronze medals last Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The DTCC, founded by the legendary sports czar Edward Hayco, sent in a lean dance team composed of just 19 couples but hauled in the most medals, underscoring yet again their vice-grip of the country’s dancesport scene.

Young but talented dancer John Paul Mocorro led the gold rush with four gold medals. He first teamed up with Therese Quilaton to win the Junior A classes of both the Standard and Latin dance events. Then, he partnered with Jam Flores to reign supreme in the Youth C class of the Latin and Standard disciplines.

BUSY SCHEDULE AHEAD

In addition, DTCC co-chairman Eleanor Hayco and head coach Loloi Rendon announced the team’s schedule of activities for next year highlighted by the hosting of the Cebu Open Dancesport Championship at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Lahug on April 2014.

Aside from the annual free summer dance workshops and the participation in the DSCPI tournaments, DTCC will also have the first-ever Inter-School/University Dancesport Challenge in May of next year.
