AFTER capturing its first-ever title in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) juniors division volleyball tournament, the Southwestern University (SWU) aims to add another trophy to their collection as they headline the cast of squads that will be competing in the Cebu regionals of the Shakey’s Girls V-League, which starts on Thursday in a still to be determined venue.
SWU claimed the Cesafi crown last week at the expense of the University of San Carlos (USC) but both squads are expected to meet once more in this competition. The champion of this tournament will earn the chance to represent the region in the Tournament of Champions on January 2013.
Last year, SWU won the Cebu leg and made it all the way to the championship game of the Tournament of Champions before falling to the Hope Christian School-powered NCR West, 22-25, 24-26, 26-28.
Aside from SWU and USC, the other teams that will competing are former champions Pajo National High School, the University of San Jose-Recoletos, St. Theresa’s College, the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation, Mandaue National Comprehensive High School, PAREF-Southcrest, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
