Truck driver shot dead in Toledo traffic accident

A truck driver was killed while his companion was wounded following a traffic accident in barangay Ilihan, Toledo City, southwest Cebu.

Police identified the fatality as Joel Bonghanoy, 32. Injured was 28-year-old Dionisio Traya.

Police said the fatal shooting happened around 6 p.m. Saturday while the two victims were heading home aboard an Isuzu Elf truck driven by Bonghanoy.

Police said an Isuzu Forward tried to overtake the Elf truck in sitio Kabulihan but hit the left side mirror of the other vehicle.

Bonghanoy gave chase when the Isuzu Forward didn’t stop.

The Isuzu Forward pulled over a few meters from the where the accident occurred.

Bonghanoy also pulled over. He and Traya were about to approach the other driver who suddenly whipped out a gun and fired shots.

Bonghanoy was hit in the chest while Traya was wounded in the left shoulder.

The assailant drove away after the incident.

The victims were brought to the Toledo City Hospital where Bonghanoy was declared dead. Traya was transferred to a hospital in Cebu city.

Police said an operation to arrest the gunman is in progress.
