Student shot, fights for life

 

A 21-year-old first year college student is fighting for his life after two men shot him early yesterday morning in barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Aldwin Jim, a resident of sitio Riverside, Banawa in barangay Guadalupe is confined at the Chong Hua hospital for the two gunshot wounds in his face.

SPO1 Geoffrey Gutual, homicide investigator, said police still have to discover the gunman’s identity and the motive behind the shooting.

Jim was driving a motorcycle along Duterte Street on his way to buy liquor at past 2 a.m. He had been drinking with friends and only left to buy more drinks.

Gutual said the gunmen were waiting for him at the area where he was shot.

One bullet exited through his head.

According to Gutual, the already wounded victim was still able to drive the motorcycle to his house and ask for help. Neighbors took him to the hospital.

Teacher shot in Carcar City

A 52-year-old teacher was wounded after he was shot by men on board a motorcycle in Barangay Poblacion 3, Carcar City last Friday dawn.

Edgardo Morano, married and a resident of Carcar, sustained a gunshot wound on his left shoulder. He teaches at the Upland Elementary School in Barangay Poblacion 1, Carcar City.

PO1 Gerry Alegrado, desk officer of Carcar City Police Station, said that Morano went out of their house to buy bread. While he was standing along the road, the gunmen on board a motorcycle that was passing by made a sudden U-turn and shot him several times.

A driver of a motorcycle-for-hire who saw the incident took the victim to the nearest hospital, He was later transferred to a Cebu City hospital.

PO1 Alegrado said that a personal grudge may have been the reason for the shooting, although they still have to complete their investigation./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC
