2,167 QC cops to monitor voting precincts on Oct. 28

Over 2,000 Quezon City policemen will man areas near polling precincts to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Oct. 28 barangay elections.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will deploy 380 police officers to polling centers in District 1; 460 personnel in District 2; 261 in District 3; 360 in District 4; 396 in District 5 and 310 in District 6.

According to QCPD deputy director for administration Senior Supt. Joel Pagdilao, policemen assigned to a specific area on a regular basis would be deployed elsewhere on Election Day.

“This is to reduce the effect of familiarity with the incumbent officials,” he said as he pegged the number of policemen to be deployed at 2,167. They will be backed up by 59 soldiers.

Each of the six districts in Quezon City will also have a 45-man civil disturbance management team on standby on Oct. 28.

Earlier, the QCPD and other offices identified 14 “areas of concern:” Barangays Bagong Pag-asa, Sienna and Talayan in District 1; Barangay Payatas in District 2; Barangays Matandang Balara, Pansol, Socorro and Loyola in District 3; Barangays Valencia, Tatalon and Kalusugan in District 4; and Barangays Gulod, Bagbag and Nagkaisang Nayon in District 5.

The city has 142 barangays and 159 polling centers.
