MANILA, Philippines – The rain didn’t stop people from pouring out into the streets of Makati on Friday to get a glimpse of Miss World and the Philippines’ pride Megan Young who motorcaded around the city on this wet afternoon.
Clad in a crimson Terno, Young waved to the crowd as she stood in a crown-shaped float accompanied by Miss World national director Cory Quirino and Miss World Chief Executive Officer Julia Morley.
Radyo Inquirer 990 AM reported that brass bands, chariots, vintage cars escorted Young’s float.
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), an organizer of Friday’s event, closed Ayala Avenue to traffic from 1 p.m.to 4 p.m.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said Friday in a Philippine that “this appreciation parade befits the honor and accolade she has given our country.”
On Saturday, the 23-year-old beauty queen will visit Olongapo City, where Young originally hails from.
Young arrived in the Philippines Thursday afternoon from London, where she would reside until the end of her term as Miss World.
Young bested 126 beauty queens from around the world to become the first Filipina to win the coveted title in a contest broadcast in more than 180 countries worldwide.
