In his first 100 days in office, Talisay City Mayor Johnny “JVR” delos Reyes said he brought City Hall closer to the poor.
“I built a pharmacy to sell cheap, quality medicines for the poor, bought three ambulances to fetch poor patients, medical and dental assistance every week and re-opened and cleaned the Tabunok public market,” he said in Cebuano.
And in the next two and a half years, delos Reyes said he plans to turn Talisay City into a premier tourist haven in southern Cebu.
“I want people to come and visit Talisay City. I want them to appreciate and enjoy the city as they come here,” he said.
The mayor read his first 100 days accomplishment report in a speech at the Talisay City grounds.
Aside from the ambulances, delos Reyes said he ordered the purchase of new police patrol vehicles and the repair of existing drainage systems.
He also claimed that his “adopt a Talisaynon” employment program was a success and the city slaughterhouse raised its income from P1.3 million to P2 million a month in his first days in office.

Next year, delos Reyes said he plans to install cable cars and a zipline at the mountain areas of Talisay City and a pool across the Talisay City Hall where people can hold swimming contests and other activities.
“I want Talisay City to become a presentable and a nice place where they will always want to visit,” he said.
He said he will also identify diving spots in Talisay City that would be improved for additional tourist attractions.
“Let us make Talisay a nice place because this is a treasure that we can give our children before we leave this world,” he added.
A 4.1 hectare relocation site will be built near sitio Litmon, Dumlog, Talisay City for the families living in coastal barangays hit by huge waves early this week.
“If they want to be relocated then everyone can stay there,” delos Reyes said.
