MANILA, Philippines – Damage to crops and infrastructures in Negros Occidental due to rains caused by the intertropical convergence zone for the past few days has reached over P70 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Thursday.

“The estimated cost damage to infrastructure in the province of Negros Occidental amounted to P34,015,000.00,” the NDRRMC said in its situation report.

Meanwhile, the damage to agriculture, particularly in Palay/Irrigation System in Moises Padilla, San Carlos City, Pulupandanan, Cadiz City, Hinoba-an, La Castellana, La Carlota City and Pontevedra was pegged at P37,732,100.00.

The ITCZ rains in Visayas and Mindanao since Friday last week killed 13 people and displaced 100,000 persons.

In Zamboanga City, which was still recovering from the gunbattle between the government forces and Moro National Liberation Front last month, about 17,000 persons left their homes as of Wednesday morning due to rains.
