CH asked to rush Bonbon bridge work

/ 11:13 AM October 10, 2013

RESIDENTS of barangay Bonbon in Cebu City have asked City Hall to put on fast track the completion of the Bonbon bridge project.

“A concrete road helps, but a bridge is more useful,” said Maricel Gabato, 27 of sitio Patag.

Mayor Michael Rama was in Bonbon yesterday for the formal turnover of a P3 million road concreting and drainage project in the barangay.

“We feel safer now with the road, but we need more,” she said.

Bonbon barangay captain Alexander Ibarita said the new road is about 400 meters long. A drainage canal was built along the road but has been filled up with soil.

Bernie Iran, 46, said a riprap should have been built to prevent soil build-up in the canal.

Because of an uncompleted bridge, vehicles have to cross the river to get to the barangay.

Gabato said that during heavy rain, their motorcycles have to be left on one side of the bridge and they then proceed on foot.

Rama assured residents that the bridge will be completed soon. “There’s already a budget for that. Let’s just wait,” Rama said.

Turn over

Rama also officially turned over other road concreting projects in six other mountain barangays. In barangays Sudlon I, Sudlon II, Sinsin, Tabunan and Tagbao, concreted roads with drainage systems worth over P3 million each were completed. In Buot-Taup, another two road concreting projects were turned over to sitio Mac-ap. “I want to connect roads in mountain barangays in the city to that of the province,” he said.
