Robbery suspect killed while resisting arrest in Davao City

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A suspected robber was killed by police when he resisted arrest here on Tuesday, the police reported Wednesday.

Roberto Kipte, who had two pending arrest warrants for burglary, was seen by policemen roaming around Juna Subdivision in Matina area.

“When accosted and asked for identification, Kipte instead drew out a handgun and engaged the arresting officers in a firefight,” Senior Superintendent Ronald Dela Rosa, city police director, said.

Dela Rosa said the arresting officers had to defend themselves and killed Kipte in the process.

He said police recovered from the slain suspect’s possession were a .38 caliber pistol, several pieces of ammunition, and six pieces of pawnshop receipts for pawned jewelry.

During the followup operation, the police were also able to retrieve 18 more pawnshop receipts from a woman said to be his wife Marycris Ardines, Dela Rosa said.
