CEBU Archbishop Jose Palma recently ordered the reshuffling of over 50 parochial vicars or assistant priests in the entire archdiocese.
Palma advised the priests to avoid grander receptions to live up to the simplicity that Pope Francis wanted members of the clergy to practice.
“As your archbishop, may I encourage everyone that the transfer would focus on the liturgical reception so as not to incur unnecessary expenses,” he said.
Palma also urged the priests to detach themselves from the parish where they came from.
Msgr. Achilles Dakay, the media liaison officer of the Archdiocese of Cebu, said the reshuffling of priests had been planned.
The decision on where priests will be assigned has been the concern of the Archdiocesan Personnel Board led by outgoing Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Julito Cortes, who will be the new bishop of Dumaguete. /Reporter Ador Vincent Mayol
