Library project breaks ground in Olango Island

More than 700 pupils of Poo Elementary school in barangay San Vicente, Olango island will benefit from the library building that will be donated by Cathay Pacific and U-Freight Phils. Inc.

The airline and cargo executives trooped to Olango last Monday to break ground for the construction of library, together with the school and barangay officials.

The library building costs around P600,000 and is expected to be completed in December.

The library will be equipped with books, computer units with internet connection and sports equipment once completed.

Michael Aquino, president of U-Freight Phils. Inc., said he never hesitated when Cathay Pacific executives asked him to partner with them on the project.

Conie Cimafranca, Cathay Pacific’s Marketing and Communications supervisor, coordinated with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and the Department of Education Lapu-Lapu City in identifying Poo Elementary School as the beneficiary.

Cimafranca asked the children and the teachers to take good care of the library.

Sarah Jane Sagarino, 11, a Grade 5 pupil, said she is eager to have a library since the school does not have a library yet. She is just one of the 732 pupils who will benefit from the project. /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
